The Premier League title race is set to see plenty of twists and turns before the end of the season, and there have been many of those over the past three weeks. Arsenal lost points away from home to both Liverpool and West Ham in two consecutive matches, after advancing by two goals in both.
The game meant to get things back in play was against relegation strugglers Southampton, who were bottom of the league and on their way to action. It seemed a certainty for Arsenal, but the scenario was far from what many expected. After just 27 seconds, Carlos Alcaraz took advantage of an Aaron Ramsdale error to open the scoring.
Then former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott doubled their lead, chipping past Gabriel to slot home again. Gabriel Martinelli got the home side back into the game, and the second half didn’t provide much relief as Doug Caleta-Carr was free at the back post for a third.

Late in the game, captain Martin Odegaard took matters into his own hands and scored an effort from distance to pull the game back in hand. Bukayo Saka then drew the team level as he followed up a shot from Gavin Bazono, but there wasn’t enough time to find a winner.
It leaves Arsenal five points clear, with two more games to play against rivals Man City, though matters are still in their hands. And after the result was confirmed, City striker Erling Haaland took to social media to post an interestingly timed post with pictures of him smiling.
The tweet reads: “Mood. Still.” Who copied a tweet he posted shortly after last Sunday’s draw with West Ham, where he said: “Mood”.
