An earthquake in Co Donegal in the early hours of Saturday struck many homes and woke people from their sleep.
The epicenter of the 2.5-magnitude earthquake was at 1.32am north of Donegal, near Glenveagh National Park.
Ireland’s National Seismological Network, run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, has received reports that the event was felt across the Donegal area.
It occurred at a depth of about 5 kilometers.
An earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale was recorded in the province last year.
The earthquake was widely felt by the people of Donegal. Some people at first thought they were listening to thunder.
One woman posted on the Donegal Daily Facebook page that the earthquake “shook our whole house in Churchill”.
Another company, Aisling Tourish, described it as like “a short boom followed by a long, low rattle that lasted about 10 seconds. The house shook with the bang and I thought at first there was an explosion somewhere.”
Susan Sailor said she felt the tremors on Arranmore Island, which is 5km from the mainland.
