Welby was fined £300 for speeding and ordered to pay an additional £90 in costs, plus a £120 additional victim fee.
His conviction came on the same day he condemned the government’s illegal immigration bill in a speech in the House of Lords.
He said the law “falls short of our history, our moral responsibility, and our political and international interests,” adding that he would personally introduce an amendment.
A Lambeth Palace spokesperson said: “Yes, the Archbishop is aware of the matter but has not been notified that it has gone to court.
He tried to solve this problem and paid the fine three times.
“He has all the papers to show he tried to push. Administrative errors seem to be causing the problems.”
