Barcelona’s La Liga title celebrations were cut short when Espanyol fans stormed the pitch and attacked them, forcing them to retreat to the safety of the dressing room.

The Blaugrana players were dancing shoulder to shoulder in the center of the circle, enjoying the LaLiga title win on the turf of their local rivals before things got ugly. A number of Espanyol fans made their way onto the pitch and started running at the Barcelona team.

In response, players immediately rushed for the safety of the dressing room and videos showed every member of the Barcelona squad managed to get in just in time before angry fans confronted them. The actual performance was outstanding on Xavi’s part, as Barcelona lost 4-2 thanks to two goals from Robert Lewandowski either side of Alejandro Balde’s effort and Jules Conde’s goal just before the hour mark.

Speaking of the post-match carnage, Xavi told Movistar: “In the end, celebration is normal, but there comes a point where we are not at home. It was respectful to leave.”

As for the victory itself, it put Barcelona 14 points away from arch-enemies Real Madrid with only four matches left, an irresistible lead. This is the first time Barcelona have won the La Liga title since 2019, when Lionel Messi was still pulling the strings and Xavi retired from playing.

Xavi is now at the Camp Nou and won his second trophy in his first full season at the helm. Barcelona beat Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia last January to win the Spanish Super Cup.

“The team has done a great job and the club has done a great job for us to have a top-level squad,” said Xavi. “It’s been a great season, the Premier League and La Liga four rounds away. I’m happy for the club, the president and the fans. This is the reward for all the work during the season.”

Club president Joan Laporta added: “Sunday was a joy for all the fans to celebrate. I hope it will be the first of many titles. We have saved the club financially and brought joy back to Barcelona. And now we are starting to win important titles, which we hope will be the beginning of a great era.” “.

Laporta continued, “Xavi worked hard to play good football. He deserves congratulations. We have a great coach, great staff. We are very happy that this continues. I always thought we were on the right track but I never did.” We take it for granted because there is always someone to surprise you. We wanted to win the league as quickly as possible. We played a good game in Cornella, which gave us the title.”
