Just Stop Oil activists were dragged along the road by police for the first time since they began blocking traffic with “slow marches”.
Four groups from the environmental group took to London’s main roads on Wednesday morning in the latest attempt to force ministers to cancel all new oil and gas licences.
But it backfired as the Metropolitan Police took their toughest stand yet since the “slow marches” began to infuriate motorists before Christmas.
An officer was filmed dragging a protester along the runway, the eagle fluttering and clutching his orange flag, bearing in mind the crackdowns the Dutch and German police have waged against environmental groups.
The audience said off to the clouds
However, they were not arrested immediately. Met Police have been given statutory powers by ministers to remove environmental protesters from the road, who have seen more arrests in recent weeks.
The police officer’s pull of the activist, on Cromwell Road, a road in west London, comes after months of criticism from the Underground for telling members of the public to do the same.
