Australia coach Graham Arnold has advised football “obsessed” Ange Postecoglou to “prove the doubters wrong” by achieving success with English club Tottenham.

Arnold, who lost an A-League grand final to Postecoglou in 2011 when Brisbane Roar beat his Central Coast Mariners on penalties, said Spurs would be “a great job” for departing boss Hobbs.

Arnold explained: “I think he’s going to kill it (in the Premier League).

“He’s totally obsessed with the game. It’s his life.”

“(I) always knew he had that mentality of where he wanted to go — that was at the top.

“He’s had some setbacks but that’s a drill. You learn from those kinds of setbacks and Ange was always someone who was always (determined) to prove the doubters wrong.

“That, in many ways, is his motivation. I am very happy for him.

“We have a difficult way of coaching in Australia. One of Ange’s greatest strengths is the recruitment and his attention to detail in the players he gets his way and the system and the way he wants to play.

“Because we are training on a fixed salary system, we had to do a lot of work, work hard and focus on the tactical side more than ever before.

“A lot of managers are managers, not coaches either. Aang has the dual role of being a coach as well as being a manager.

“On the tactical side of things, he doesn’t rely on other people to tell him what to do because he feels overwhelmed. On the managerial side, he knows human management, he knows how to get the best results and motivate people.

“Sometimes a lot of managers leave coaching to someone else to do and play that other coach’s way.

“With Ange, this is his way. It’s amazing.”
