3.0-magnitude earthquake strikes under Mount Hood, no damage reported

Portland, Oregon – A 3.0-magnitude earthquake hit Mount Hood Tuesday afternoon at 2:35 p.m.

USGS seismologists said the epicenter was under the western side of the mountain, north of Timberline Lodge about a mile below the surface.

Scientists at the University of Washington’s Pacific Northwest Seismic Network say they’ve been reviewing the data and wouldn’t be surprised to see aftershocks in the same area.

“The Cascades are one of the most active volcanic chains on the planet. They are part of the ‘Ring of Fire.’” says Dave Salesky, KATU meteorologist.

There were no reports of damage.
