As Scotland prepares to celebrate the coronation of King and Queen Camilla, let’s look back at the day the duo was crowned in London less than two months ago.

The new monarch was greeted with pomp and pageantry at Westminster Abbey, in a ceremony attended by members of the royal family, world leaders and some famous faces – American singer Katy Perry and British actress Emma Thompson to name a few.

Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of London to catch a glimpse of the monarch during his procession, at times braving torrential rain.

The ceremony was watched on television by 18 million viewers from all over the world.

The coronation was not without its critics, however.

Transgender model and activist Monroe Bergdorf, for example, has questioned the need for such a display of wealth against the backdrop of the UK’s cost-of-living crisis.

She said, “We don’t want to celebrate the Queen, we want affordable food, rent and bills.”

The ceremony is estimated to cost between £50m and £100m.

Meanwhile, the Republicans protested against the king and the monarchy, holding up banners reading “Notmy King”. The police arrested dozens of demonstrators, and some accused the demonstrators of arbitrariness.
