Manchester United could change their centre-back options if a buyer steps in for Harry Maguire.
MEN Sport reports that the captain is valued at £50m despite being the 30th and fifth United centre-back. Erik ten Hag likes right-footed and left-footed in defence, putting Maguire behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.
However, United are not actively looking to sell Maguire unless they can replace him. This situation could change if the acquisition takes place and Ten Hag’s budget increases.
If United were to make use of Maguire, they would almost certainly replace him with a younger model. Looking at the age profile of their defenders, Lisandro Martinez is the youngest at 25 years old.

Their opponents possess the likes of William Saliba, Ibrahim Konate, Levi Colwell and soon-to-be Josko Gvardiol, who are all waiting for their best years. While Martinez has yet to peak, United could also handle a young centre-back in order to form and develop.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand urged the club to sign Colwell, if they needed a defender. The England Under-21 champions shone for Brighton & Hove Albion last season and their future is up in the air.
If I could get it, it would be my dream [Levi] Colwill,” he told FIVE last month. But I think Chelsea will keep him. I think they’ve seen how good he is now.”
Colwell wants regular game time and will hold talks with Mauricio Pochettino upon his return from international duty. Seagull’s offer has already been rejected.
The 20-year-old has been offered a new long-term contract and has two years left on his current deal. Speaking to The Times after England won the European Championship, he admitted that it was an important decision in his career.
“I’m going to talk to my family, I’m going to talk to everyone I need to and make a decision, I know it’s a big decision,” he said.
“I have to play at the end of the day with the hope of getting there and going to the next camp.”
