Ronan Keating’s older brother has been named locally as a car accident victim in Ireland.
Kieran, who was the older brother of the Boyzone star and host of The One Show, was believed to be in his fifties when he died.
He was named locally as the victim of a fatal road accident on the N5 near Swinford, Co. Mayo, on the afternoon of Saturday, July 15.
It is understood he was traveling with his wife, Anne-Marie, to watch their son, Ruairi, play for the Cork City team. The game was played in the evening of the League of Ireland Premier League clash with Sligo Rovers.
Ronan’s brother is fatally injured in a two-car collision while Ciaran’s wife is taken to hospital for treatment, although her injuries are said to not be life-threatening.
The driver of the other vehicle is also said to be receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Mayo County Council Independent Member Christy Hyland commented on Ciaran’s death today and said: “Our thoughts are with all of the Keating family. Ciaran’s death is truly shocking.”
The football team his son plays for took to social media to show support for the Keating family.
They wrote on Twitter: “Everyone at Cork City FC is deeply saddened by the passing of Ciaran Keating, the father of our player, Ruiri Keating.
“We express our deepest sympathy to Ruiri and the entire Keating family at this very difficult time. May he rest in peace. We ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course. #CCFC84”
