Manchester United is expected to make a bid for Atalanta player Rasmus Hooglund, and the club insists that it does not want to pay more than 60 million pounds for the Dane, Erik Ten Hag is determined to include a new center forward as soon as possible.
Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are making progress in signing a new striker before the season starts.
United have been closely linked with Atalanta’s Rasmus Hooglund and is expected to make a bid, despite the club insisting they do not want to pay more than £60m.
Ten Hag has stressed the importance of bringing in players as early as possible this summer so they can settle in, and is hopeful United can add more Mason Mount and Andre Onana signings soon.
We’re making progress but we know how it’s going and when we have it, we’ll let you know firsthand,” Ten Hag said in San Diego ahead of the Under-21s’ game against Wrexham at the Snapdragon Stadium on Tuesday and the first-team match with Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday.
The only thing I can say is that we will do everything we can to make it happen. If it’s up to me, yeah, as soon as possible, the earlier the better, because we have to integrate him into the team and the way we play.
Erik ten Hag has revealed that Manchester United are making progress towards signing a striker and the Red Devils are expected to make a bid for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hooglund – although they will not pay more than £60m despite the Italian side’s £86m request.
In an ideal situation, he was already here. But you don’t always get ideal situations as a manager and you have to deal with the situation.
United have already indicated they are out of the running to sign Harry Kane, and Ten Hag has been asked if there is a possibility of Kylian Mbappe going on loan to Old Trafford next season if the French star turns down a major move to Saudi club Al Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain.
He replied, “We never talk about contracted players.”
Ten Hag is desperate to inject more goals into United after his side fell behind the rest of the top six in goalscoring last season. Marcus Rashford has scored 30 goals and the manager hopes he can produce again “if his situation is right” after signing a new £300,000-a-week contract.
“When his attitude is right, he will,” said Ten Hag. It’s not easy and the team has to play well to put him in the right place. When the team plays well, so when we keep the rules and principles in our way of playing and Rashford’s attitude is right and he puts himself in the right positions, he will finish the game because he has great abilities. When in the penalty area, he is clinical, ruthless, and scores goals with his right and left foot and with his head.
We’re putting underperformance out there and we’re aware of that, so others have to contribute in that area as well. So we’re looking at scoring abilities and I think at Mason Mount we have an extra player who can score goals and assists and play players like Rashford in positions to score more goals. As a whole team we have to score more.
Anthony Martial returned to training with the rest of the squad on Monday after recovering from a hamstring injury and Ten Hag will hope the Frenchman stays injury-free.
“Today, he was in team training, so it’s really hopeful,” said the United boss. Of course, when you have a player on your team, you have to expect that he is available and the players have to take responsibility to be available.
Ten Hag is determined to bring in a striker as soon as possible to integrate them into the squad in time for the start of the new season.
But when he is not, I have to deal with the situation and we have shown that we can succeed without this striker. But it’s easier when you have that striker in the team because every team that wins big trophies has the goalscoring abilities in that team.
We need a good team and Anthony Martial is a brilliant footballer so he will help us score goals. There are other areas like pressing in possession sets, he’s a great player, so hopefully he can keep his fitness.
Jadon Sancho played a false nine and scored in Saturday’s win over Arsenal in New Jersey and could give United another option.
“He does this role well,” said Ten Hag. Jadon is best in positions, central positions when he can get involved in the right fields.
