That’s why there are friends.
Titus Burgess stuck with his friend “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Ellie Kimber after she was harshly criticized for calling her the Queen of Ball with alleged links to white supremacy when she was a teenager.
The Broadway representative, 42, told Page Six that he spoke to Kimber on the phone and that she was doing well.
“We’ll leave it at that,” he said before adding, “My Ellie is doing great. Ellie is great.”
On Monday, Kimber, 41, offered a lengthy apology on Instagram after photos surfaced of her coronation as the veiled Queen of St. Louis with the Apostle Paul back in 1999.
The “office” alum said that she did not know the history of junior football when she decided to participate, but admitted that “ignorance is not an excuse.”
“I was old enough to educate myself before getting engaged,” she said.
Burgess retweeted Kemper’s apology on his Instagram account, writing alongside it: “I love my Ellie ❤️, oh, and PS Next time, just ask me, I’ll tell you what to do 🥰.”
The Veiled Prophet’s Ball was originally formed in 1878 by elites to honor Mardi Gras rituals, allegedly linked to white supremacy.
Notably slimmer Burgess, who revealed that during the lockdown, “I’ve hired a coach, I’ve also hired a plastic surgeon,” Monday night at the Roundabout Theater Company’s 2021 gala at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.
“Kimmy Schmidt” star Jane Krakowski topped the show, but Burgess wowed crowds in high heels, including Alec Baldwin and Vanessa Williams, with his adorable performance in Barbra Streisand’s classic “People.”
“Holy balls, that was amazing,” Krakowski exclaimed after the delivery.
Burgess can’t wait for the New York theater to return. He has been working on an adaptation of Whitney Houston’s The Preacher’s Wife and hopes to make it to Broadway soon.
