Hackers have reportedly stolen the source code of FIFA 21 and the Frostbite engine amid massive EA interference. As first reported by Vice, about 780GB of data has been stolen and is now being advertised for sale.
EA confirmed the breach in a statement to Vice, saying it was investigating a “recent intrusion incident” of its network.
“We are investigating a recent incident of intrusion into our network where a limited amount of game source code and related tools were stolen. Player data was not accessed, and we have no reason to believe there is any risk to player privacy. After the incident, we have already made security improvements and do not expect any impact on our games or our business. We are actively working with law enforcement officials and other experts as part of this ongoing criminal investigation.”
The Frostbite engine is the technology that powers the majority of major EA games, from Madden NFL to Battlefield 2042.
In addition to the source code for FIFA 21 and the Frostbite Engine, hackers also reportedly stole EA’s software development kits and development tools. EA is the latest publisher to fall victim to a major hack, with Capcom and CD Projekt also suffering major intrusions over the past year.
