GOP chairwoman Rona McDaniel slams Ilhan Omar as an “anti-Semite”

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, has called for her removal from the House of Representatives after her inflammatory remarks pointing to a comparison between the United States, Israel and Hamas.

“Comparing Ilhan Omar to terrorist organizations is anti-Semitic and unacceptable,” McDaniel wrote on Twitter on Saturday. She shouldn’t be in Congress, let alone a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.”

Omar initially said, “We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unimaginable atrocities committed by the United States, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan and the Taliban. I asked @SecBlinken where people are supposed to go to get justice.”

McDaniel’s statement comes after Omar faced a bipartisan backlash over her comments. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders issued a statement critical but appeared satisfied with her “clarification.”

Ilhan Omar’s long history of contradictory data

Omar said: “To be clear: The talk was about accountability for specific incidents related to ICC cases, not a moral comparison between Hamas and the Taliban and the United States and Israel.”

I was in no way likening terrorist organizations to democratic countries with well-established judicial systems.”

At a news conference, Pelosi dismissed a question about further discipline for Omar, who has a long history of controversial comments.

“I think she made her remarks clear and we accept that, she has a point she wanted to make and she has a right to make that point,” Pelosi said. “There is some concern about how to interpret it.”

“I made it clear to her,” Pelosi added, before moving on to the next question.

Meanwhile, several Republican House members have called for Pelosi to remove Omar from her duties on the committee.
