Although this isn’t the same attention paid to the new releases of Final Fantasy, Square Enix is giving the first six games in the RPG series a “pixel remaster” treatment. At the company’s E3 presentation, it announced that these pixel-perfect versions will land on mobile and Steam platforms. Other details, however, were scarce.
This should help set expectations: This is not a new version of FFVII. Games like Final Fantasy VI could benefit from an updated version – not well received on Steam (and the “updated” graphics).
True remakes can be welcomed, especially when smartphones can easily play games originally created decades ago – and introduce them to new generations who may not have played them. (And don’t tell anyone, but I haven’t finished Final Fantasy II. This might be my chance.)
