DETROIT — Ford Motor Company’s luxury brand Lincoln expects about half of its sales to be all-electric models by 2026, as it plans to introduce new electric vehicles across its vehicle lineup over the next decade, the company said Wednesday.
Ford announced last month that it would speed up the rollout of electric vehicles under a new restructuring plan called “Ford+” led by CEO Jim Farley. The plan aims to achieve 40% of Ford’s global sales volume via electric vehicles by 2030.
“Lincoln will usher in a new era of electrified vehicles and globally connected experiences, and we plan to offer a full line of electrified Lincoln vehicles globally by the end of this decade,” Lincoln President Joy Valutico said during a media briefing.
The Lincoln EV targets fewer than the largest American competitor, Cadillac. General Motors’ luxury brand plans to offer exclusively electric vehicles by 2030. Neither Lincoln nor Cadillac is offering an all-electric vehicle in its current lineup as it tries to catch up with electric car leader Tesla.
Cadillac’s plans are part of General Motors’ larger “ambition” to sell exclusively electric cars by 2035.
Falotico said Lincoln will continue to offer hybrid electric vehicles in addition to gas vehicles as the brand transitions to EVs. She declined to set a timetable for Lincoln to reach a 100% electric lineup, saying that would depend on customer demand, specifically in its largest markets in North America and China.
“We will do everything we can to be an all-electric brand, but we will do it as customers embrace,” she told CNBC during an interview.
Lincoln said it will launch a new electric car for China and North America next year as the brand celebrates its centenary. It will join Aviator hybrid models and Corsair SUVs.
Lincoln said it plans to launch four new electric vehicles, but did not reveal a specific timeframe for those vehicles. Falotico also declined to say if Lincoln’s new electric vehicles would share names with its four existing vehicles, including the popular Navigator SUV.
