Biden also gifted the Russian president a crystal sculpture of an American bull – the national mammal of the United States – made by Steuben Glass of New York, according to the official.

The gift for airmen with ties to NATO is a symbolic gift and comes on the heels of the Defense Alliance summit in Brussels that Biden attended. During that summit, Biden reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to a military alliance and urged Western allies to better align themselves against Russia and China.

The official said Randolph USA makes its planes in Massachusetts. In 1978, the company collaborated with the US Army to produce the HGU-4/P Aviator, which was designed for combat pilots, according to the official.

The official said that the crystal statue of the American bull represents strength, unity and resilience. The American bison has been a national mammal of the United States since 2016, when President Barack Obama signed the National Bison Heritage Act into law.

According to the official, the statue had a cherry wood base to symbolize former US President George Washington, as well as an engraved inscription plate dedicated to commemorating the meeting between the two leaders.

After their summit in Geneva, Biden said during a press conference that he focused on human rights and achieving a stable relationship with Russia during their high-stakes talks. During the meeting, Biden emphasized his focus on human rights.

Earlier, Putin said in a separate press conference that he had not detected any hostility between the two leaders. The summit ended with a modest agreement to restore each country’s ambassador to his posts, a decision expected for a summit that tested Biden’s decades of experience on the world stage.
