Joy Behar, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” shocked co-host Megan McCain on Tuesday with an “inappropriate” gay joke that later urged viewers to simply pretend it didn’t happen.

ABC News daytime Gapfest Las Vegas Raiders discussed the defensive end of Karl Nessib, who on Monday became the first active player in NFL history to come out as gay. The committee largely supported Nassib’s decision, praising it for its representation of the LGBTQ community. However, Behar made a joke when she made it clear that she does not know much about football.

“After they said ‘breakthrough in the end zone’, they lost me,” Behar said.

RAIDERS’ Karl Nesib declared he’s gay: ‘I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now’

Behar’s comment made everyone on the show collapse, except for McCain, who was clearly disgusted with the comment.

“Of all the progress gay men have made since I got out, our lives are still defined by anal sex jokes,” journalist John Nicosia wrote on Twitter.

Mediaite’s Lea called it an “insensitive sex joke” and Behar later tried to back off, telling viewers to “make them believe” it never happened.

“By the way, that inappropriate joke I made for daytime television, scratch it. Believe I never said it,” Behar told viewers.

Nassib made the announcement on Monday via his Instagram account from his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

“I just wanted to take a quick moment to say I’m gay,” Nassib said. “I’ve been intending to do this for a while, but I finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I truly have the best life, the best family, friends, and a job any man could ask for.”

Nassib continued, “I’m a very private person, so I hope you know I’m not doing this for attention. I just think acting and seeing are very important.” “I really hope that videos like this and the entire directing process will not be necessary one day, but until then I will do my best and do my part to cultivate a culture of acceptance and empathy.”

Nassib also said he’s donating $100,000 to the Trevor Project, “the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBT youth.”
