Two people were arrested after a Virginia local school board meeting turned indiscipline, as officials closed a public comment period during a heated discussion about critical race theory and politics for transgender students.
Police in Loudoun County said one person charged with trespassing issued a subpoena after refusing to leave school board property and another charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest Tuesday, local television WJLA reported.
School officials ended public comment after worried parents shouted at speakers and protesters disrupted proceedings.

The subject of contention was the school district’s curriculum for critical race theory, a hot issue that has sparked controversy in many areas across the country. The curriculum, which has been implemented in some areas, teaches American history with a broader context about the role that slavery and systemic racism played in society.
Critics say teaching history through a race-based lens is overly divisive and unsuitable for children.
Concerned parents in Loudoun also expressed outrage over a new policy that would define and protect the rights of transgender students in the area.
The policy calls for “all students to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, transgender status, or gender identity/expression,” according to NBC4 Washington.
“The Loudoun County School Board ended the public comment section at its June 22 meeting unanimously after Chair Brenda L. Sheridan repeatedly warned boardroom attendees that noisy public demonstrations violated meeting etiquette,” the board said. Permit. Sheridan had previously and repeatedly warned the public after providing the public comment section by reading قراء [the policy]. Earlier, the president left a five-minute school board meeting due to the unrest before a unanimous vote was held to end public comment.”
The district’s policy toward transgender students gained national attention earlier this month after an elementary school teacher was suspended for refusing to abide by those rules, saying they had violated his religious beliefs.
A judge later ordered the teacher’s return.
