A pedestrian bridge collapsed on the DC-295 in northeastern Washington, D.C., Wednesday, injuring at least six people and trapping a truck that leaked gallons of diesel fuel in drains, officials said.
DC Fire and EMS said four people were taken to hospitals with injuries and two others were evaluated.
Chopper 4’s footage shows the bridge over three lanes of the road. The fencing hangs over three lanes of traffic in the opposite direction.
Debris including concrete slabs and metal fences were seen piled atop a car wheel at one end of the bridge, which appeared to be completely separate from a stair and platform.
At least two vehicles appear to be located under the falling bridge, under a large sign for the Penning Road exit.
A truck carrying 500 gallons of diesel got partially trapped under the bridge and started leaking fuel.
About 25 gallons of fuel spilled into nearby drains, a spokesman for the D.E. Department of Energy and Environment said, and the hazardous materials team put in a material to absorb more diesel and mitigate the risks to waterways.

DC Fire and EMS said another vehicle was wrecked.
Firefighters checked the cars under the collapsed bridge and initially reported that no one was trapped. DC Fire and EMS first reported three minor injuries.
The bridge that collapsed over DC-295 connected Polk Street NE to the west side of Kenilworth Avenue NW near Douglas Street NE.
The Metropolitan Area Transportation Coordination (Matok) said the collapse brought traffic to a halt on the highway.
Traffic backups were reported on the DC-295 after the crash, extending about 3 miles north and 1.5 miles south.
MATOC said northbound traffic was diverted to Nannie Helen Burroughs Street and southbound traffic was diverted to Eastern Avenue.
Information was not immediately released about the cause of the collapse or whether anyone was walking on the bridge at the time.
Editor’s Note: The avalanche occurred at DC-295 north of Interstate 295.
