Universal, DreamWorks reach Peacock within four months of theatrical releases الإصدار

Starting next year, global theatrical releases will head to Peacock as exclusives no later than four months after their first show in cinemas — an apparent attempt to win over subscribers who may have missed the studio’s silver screen flicks.

The multi-year deal will see not only global titles but also films from DreamWorks, Illumination and Focus Films. As part of the agreement, titles will go to Peacock for the first four months in addition to the last four months of the traditional 18-month first payment window, the two companies announced Tuesday. (Pay-one refers to the agreements between the Services and the studios to acquire the first rights to stream movies and content after their initial release.)

Universal’s 2022 movie slate includes some highly anticipated releases. A spokesperson for The Verge has confirmed that all releases of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group next year — including Jurassic World: Dominion, an untitled horror film from Jordan Peele, Minions: The Rise of Gru, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish — will hit Peacock in later. More than four months after it was released in cinemas as part of the agreement.

DreamWorks, Illumination and Focus Films products will also be included as part of the agreement

During the 10-month period between these two windows, the titles will head to other streaming services. The companies said this release model would allow “multiple audiences across a variety of streaming services to experience Universal’s slate of award-winning and critically acclaimed films”. As part of the agreement, which will begin in 2022, Universal will also produce exclusive versions of the Peacock.

From the votes, Peacock is betting on exclusive streaming rights to Universal’s anticipated 2022 slate of movies to attract potential subscribers to the recently launched streaming service. Peter Levinson, Vice President and Director of Distribution at Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, said in a statement that the company is “excited to become Peacock’s first Pay-One partner as the platform continues to organize and build a massive movie library that will rapidly delight its growing subscriber base.”
