Conor McGregor responds to Rafael dos Anjos’ backup status

Rafael dos Anjos continues to put himself in the best possible place to get a crack at Conor McGregor.

The former lightweight champion is currently in Las Vegas to cut weight to serve as a replacement for the UFC 264 main event triple match between Dustin Poirier and McGregor, which takes place on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena. Dos Anjos news was first reported as a backup by Combate.

The message clearly reached McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC), who responded to dos Anjos (31-13 MMA, 19-11 UFC) Wednesday night.

“Put dos Anjos at the same time.”

McGregor and Dos Anjos have a long history. The pair were scheduled to fight in the UFC 196 main event, but a broken foot forced lightweight champion Dos Anjos out of the bout. McGregor faced Nate Diaz instead, and the MMA world was turned upside down when Diaz recorded a major submission upset.

When Dos Anjos transitioned to welterweight, he and McGregor were no longer on each other’s radars. But more than five years after the bout was called off, dos Anjos is back at his original lightweight home and can finally get his wish to fight McGregor — but only if Pourier can’t fight for some reason. The 36-year-old Brazilian was most recently seen playing last November, when he defeated Paul Felder in a successful return to £155.
