Police seized more than a dozen guns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition from a hotel near Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, the site of Tuesday’s All-Star baseball game, thanks to a tip from an alert hotel maid.
The confiscation may have prevented a possible mass shooting ordered by the Las Vegas massacre at a country music festival in 2017. A total of 61 people were killed in that incident when a gunman opened fire with high-powered weapons from a nearby hotel room.
In Denver, a hotel housekeeper called police after finding a weapons cache, according to ABC7 Denver. The Maven Hotel, which was the scene of the accident, is located two blocks from the stadium where Tuesday’s game will be played. It has a balcony overlooking the downtown area.
The weapons included 16 long guns, a protective vest and chambered ammunition. Three men and a woman were arrested and charged with possession of weapons. The report stated that three of the suspects were former perpetrators, and three counts of intent to distribute drugs were charged.
More seriously, one of the suspects earlier posted an encrypted message on Facebook saying he was “going out in a big way,” according to the station’s report.
“The investigation and arrests were the result of information from the public, and served as an excellent example of the critical role that society plays in public safety,” the police said in a statement Saturday evening.
