Richmond Football Club may not win a ton on the field, but Ted Lasso has positioned himself with a whole host of opportunities to raise an Emmy award in September.
Comedy on Apple TV+ on Tuesday garnered 20 Emmy Award nominations, the most nominations ever for a first-year comedy. In 2012, 19 “Glee” were arrested.
When your show puts kindness and humility before winning, there’s a “trick” to treating a morning like the experience of today’s cast and cast, co-author Bill Lawrence told TheWrap.
“Ted didn’t care about the Emmy nominations in the same way he doesn’t think about winning or losing very much,” Lawrence said. He allowed himself to admit that it was a “very interesting” day to be a member of the “Ted Lasso” cast, and they are all “extremely grateful” for the recognition of their hard work.
And Tuesday’s record won’t change the show — especially Season 2, which has been in the box for quite some time now.
“One of the great things about doing a streaming show that we knew the story of the three seasons we were telling initially is that we stick with what we’ve come up with and hope people dig it in,” Lawrence said.
“Ted Lasso” has seven acting nominations, including husband for Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, which might cause some trouble on a different set. Don’t worry here, Lawrence promised.
“I can tell you that on this particular show, the tone is set by the star/co-author [Sudeikis] “No one is counting lines or worrying about accolades,” he said. “It sounds cliched, but nominating everyone is nominating everyone. And I’m at least on the inside and I see people communicating and texting each other and making each other happy and stuff and kind of enjoying the fun of this. So it’s not something I really sweat about on this show. I’m sure that’s in it on worlds and other things.”
“But that’s a good group and I don’t think there’s a really competitive nature to any of those things here, in terms of that,” Lawrence continued. “So much so that I think if you watch season two, you’re going to see a lot of characters who probably didn’t get a lot of screen time in season one, and they get a lot of stories. And all the things we planned to show you about about them and their characters is kind of coming to light.” .

And yes, the group text string referenced is “kind” – Lawrence’s word – as Ted Lasso fans want it.
“You thought it was fake,” Lawrence said, “but it’s a true mutual appreciation.”
If you think that sounds cool, just wait until the Christmas episode in season two. We may have already said too much.
Get Ted Lasso as best you can, people. We pushed Lawrence a bit if that “three seasons story” had a little wiggle room.
“We’ll see, we’ll see. I’m still productive in my heart, so I never want to overstay welcome, and neither do I. [Sudeikis]Lawrence said. “We’re still trying to figure out — I know where this three-act story ends… And then it will be interesting to see if there are any other stories to tell. We’ll have to see.”
Then Lawrence duly noted our vote on a secondary show for Roy Kent. Thanks Bill, I look forward to it.
