LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Citing continued increases in COVID-19 transmission, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is re-executing a mandate that requires residents to wear masks while indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.
The province previously recommended wearing a mask only indoors. Officials announced that the new authorization will go into effect at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
The announcement was made during a virtual briefing on Thursday afternoon. It comes exactly one month after California dropped the statewide mask mandate for vaccinated people.
Health officials said some exceptions will apply, similar to the concealment requirements that were in place before June 15. Additional details about those exceptions were not immediately disclosed.
Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said the new health order will be posted in full on the covid19.lacounty.gov website no later than Friday.

Davis said the county is “not where we need to be” in terms of virus vaccinations, as evidenced by seven straight days of new cases that topped 1,000. On Thursday, the county reported 1,537 new infections, the highest number since early March. Asked about additional restrictions health officials might take if COVID-19 cases worsen, Davis said: “Everything is on the table.”
Development: More details will be added to this report as they become available.
