Rhys McClingan, who will represent Ireland on a pommel horse during the Olympics, sought to debunk rumors of anti-sex beds in athletes’ rooms during the Games.
McClingan, 21, posted a video of himself in his Olympic Village room on Saturday and jumping on the bed to prove he wouldn’t be interrupted by any sudden movements.

American runner Paul Chelimo tweeted about the so-called anti-sex family in Olympic Village on Friday.
“The beds that will be installed in the Tokyo Olympic Village will be made of cardboard, and this is aimed at avoiding the intimate relationship between the athletes,” he wrote. “The family will be able to take the weight of one person to avoid situations beyond sports. I don’t see any problem for distance runners, even 4 of us can do that.”
Tokyo Olympics organizers: Condoms ‘not intended for use in Athletes Village’
According to Dezeen magazine, officials made about 18,000 beds out of cardboard. The 100% recyclable beds are manufactured by the Japanese company Airweave.
But from the looks of McClingan’s video, any athlete planning to participate in some extracurricular activity might be able to do so without having their bed threatened.
Officials plan to distribute about 150,000 condoms at the games but only for awareness purposes. According to Reuters, athletes have been warned not to mingle with each other in the hope of curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

“The distribution of condoms is not for use in the athletes’ village but for athletes to be sent back to their home countries to raise awareness” of HIV and AIDS issues, a Tokyo 2020 official told Reuters.
