Jim Jordan is among the 5 Republican members of the House that McCarthy selected for the Jan. 6 Select Committee

Republican Representatives Jim Banks of Indiana, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rodney Davis of Illinois, Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota and freshman Troy Niles of Texas have been chosen by McCarthy, the minority leader confirmed to CNN.

Among the Republicans McCarthy introduced to the committee, Banks, Jordan and Niles were among 139 House Republicans who voted to nullify the results of the 2020 presidential elections in Arizona and Pennsylvania. Davis and Armstrong voted to ratify the presidential election, and Banks and Jordan were also part of the group of Republicans to sign the Texas lawsuit that sought to invalidate the votes of millions of voters in four battlefield states, but was soon blocked by the Supreme Court. .

Under the House resolution, Pelosi appointed eight members to the committee and McCarthy has five seats “in consultation” with Pelosi—meaning the House speaker can ultimately overrule his choices.

The select committee, which will investigate the deadly January 6 mutiny on Capitol Hill, is scheduled to hold its first hearing next week. Committee members will hear from Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Aquilino Gunnell as well as Metropolitan Police Officers Michael Fannon and Daniel Hodges about their experiences on January 6.

Democratic Representative Benny Thompson of Mississippi serves as the committee chair and is also the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee.

The five Republicans McCarthy chose are not the only Republican members of the committee. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has named Republican Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming from among her eight selections to serve on the committee.

Pelosi’s office told CNN Monday evening that they had just learned of the names and that Pelosi was reviewing the selections.
