Israel and Al-Ele are set to launch direct flights between Israel and Morocco’s Marrakesh on Sunday, about eight months after the two countries reached a US-backed normalization agreement.

“We are busy studying the destination, administrative coordination and preparing the plane,” he added, shortly before the flight’s departure.

The Israer flight was scheduled to leave at 8:15 a.m. local time, and El Al at 11:20 a.m.

The El Al lounge for flight LY553 was decorated with Moroccan flags, carpets and other things.

Round trip tickets for both airlines to Marrakesh cost about $500.

El Al operated the first direct commercial flight between Tel Aviv and Rabat in December 2020.
