Braves vs. Mets – Game summary – July 28, 2021

NEW YORK – Pinch Player Brandon Drury brought a break-breaking Homer in the seventh inning. Real national flex Michael Conforto threw the runner into the race in the ninth to maintain the New York Forest’s 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.

The First Forests have maintained their five-game lead over the Braves in third place in the NL East by splitting the first four games in a five-game series.

Drury beats Trevor Maya (4-2) after the reliever struck two perfect sevens, hitting Max Fried 1-0 pitch in the far left field seats with his fourth-pin hit of the season, tying him to top league lead Braves Pablo Sandoval.

In the eighth, Jeurys Familia struck Austin Riley and retired Dansby Swanson in prison to avoid the bipolar, one-time jam created by Aaron Loup.

The Bravers almost leveled it to ninth when Edwin Daz gave a breakthrough by double Abraham Almonte and a single right-back jumper Ehire Adrianza. Third base coach Ron Washington swung emphatically home to Almont when Conforto, who put the ball and put the ball in one jump, fired on the flight.

James McCann grabbed the ball in sno-cone style and did a swipe that just cut Almonte as he slid.

You can’t make a better throw than that, and McCann gets caught in the throw and attaches the tag like he did to finish the game, it was just a great ensemble from both ends, Forest manager Luis Rojas said.

Megill gave up five hits and one walk while finding six, dropping his ERA to 2.04, the second lowest mark for Mets ’newcomer after seven starts just behind Nolan Ryan (1.99).

Pretty cool to have my name there, Megill said. It’s a great recognition to get, but there’s still work to be done.

Megill also made Mets ’first run in the third when he kept the inning alive with a double single in the second straight game where he was alone. Brandon Nimmo walked and Pete Alonso sang before Jeff McNeil drove Megill’s home on the single. The hit extended McNeils ’beats to the top 15 games of his career.

McNeil placed 2 out of 4 and beat .396 with 13 RBIs during the stroke.

Fried (7-7) suffered luck after losing two strokes with five hits and two walks with nine strokes in seven innings.

At the end of the day, we needed one-run baseball, and I couldn’t do it, he said.

Ozzie Albies had two hits for the Braves.

So you say it to your birthday

Megill became the 11th Forest pitcher to start her birthday. Jacob deGrom and Ron Darling have done both twice and a second collecting a hit and a match. Darling went to 2 3 in two runs on his 26th birthday on August 19, 1986.

Megill is the first pitcher to hit and run on her birthday since Gio Gonzalez made it to Milwaukee Brewers on her 33rd birthday in 2018.

Megill is another great jumper in two days after starting her birthday. Brad Keller turned 26 on Tuesday as he threw seven innings for the Kansas City Royals and a tenth this season. Jose Urquidy, Freddy Peralta, Drew Smyly and Kwang Hyun Kim all won on their birthdays this year.

In sixth, Rileys Homer was seventh in his 18 games at Citi Field. Over major Mets rivals such as JT Realmuto (six in 51 matches), Jayson Werth (five in 70 matches) and Trea Turner (five in 39 matches).

TRAINERS ‘ROOM

Braves: OF Joc Pederson (stomach upset) returned to the lineup after missing Tuesday games. C Travis dArnaud (left thumb) is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation mission on Friday with Triple-A Gwinnett. RHP Huascar Yno (broken right hand) will begin a rehabilitation mission next Tuesday.

Mets: RHP Jacob deGrom (right forearm) threw 90 feet and is expected to throw the other half on Thursday.

NEXT

Brave: LHP Drew Smyly (7-3, 4.30 ERA) broke away from his previous start on Saturday after four innings due to a sore left knee but was able to do the usual work between his starts.

Mets: RHP Taijuan Walker (7-4, 3.43) has given up his last two starts in 12 runs (11 earned) in 4 1/3 innings, raising his ERA from 2.50 to a season-high 3.43.
