Tokyo Games Day 9: The last day of bathing as the track heats up

TOKYO Wednesday for all Olympics is always great. The swimming ends, the track sets in motion and team events approach their relegation stages. And the flood of events at the Tokyo Games seems to have peaked on Sunday.

The fastest man in the world is Marcell Jacobs from Italy. He won gold in the 100-meter run by 9.80 seconds. Silver was won by American Fred Kerley.

U.S. Caeleb Dressel won his fourth gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle. Australian Emma McKeon won her third gold in the women’s 50 free. In an unusually exciting 1,500-meter freestyle, American Bobby Finke came from behind the last 50 meters to win.

The United States has never lost a mixed men’s release in any of the Olympics in which it has competed, and despite the British challenge, the Americans won it again in Tokyo, set a world record and earned Dressel another fifth gold medal. Australia won the mixed use of women, flanked the United States and made McKeon just another woman to collect seven medals in one Olympics.

In golf, the American Xander Schauffele won the first gold medal for the United States since 1904 (it should be noted that golf was not held at the Games in 1904-2016). Rory Sabbatini, a South African who played in his wife’s native Slovakia, was second.

In the final of the gymnastics event, multi-faceted silver medalist Rebeca Andrade won gold in the women’s vault, while American MyKayla Skinner won silver. Belgian Nina Derwael won the uneven bars, and US Sunisa Lee was third. The men’s floor training was won by Israeli Artem Dolgopyat and British Max Whitlock pommel horse.

You’ve already seen the competition for BMX riders; on Sunday, they did tricks on their bikes in a freestyle race that is new to these races. The women’s competition was won by the British Charlotte Worthington, second by the American Hannah Roberts. Men’s Logan Martin won the men’s competition.

The first final of the day was a women’s throw. Chinese Gong Lijiao won gold and US Raven Saunders silver.

In tennis, German Alexander Zverev defeated Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-1 and won the men’s singles. The Czech team Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova won Women’s singles Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland. And Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublev won the entire Russian mixed final.

In the quarterfinals, U.S. featherweight Duke Ragan won the men’s boxing medal with his victory, as did the super heavyweight series Richard Torrez. Katherine Nye won silver, the first medal in the U.S. Weightlifting Championships.

In sailing, the Laser events ended with Australia winning the men’s gold and Denmark the women’s. Chinese divers Shi Tingmao and Wang Han were 1-2 women in the springboard dive, and American Krysta Palmer was third.

American Adeline Gray advanced to the gold medal wrestling match by defeating 3-2 Kyrgyz Aiperi Medet Kyzy. The United States won the second consecutive bronze medal in men’s fencing and defeated Japan.
