Far Northeast made history last spring with their first high school football championship.

Warriors coach Tony Lindsay believes it’s just the beginning.

There was an attempt to be a power plant, Lindsay said.

On Monday, there was no confidence among CHSAA’s annual Fall Sports Media Day players in the Empower Field interview room. Footballers from all states, representing all ratings, gathered to talk to reporters to preview the upcoming season – the matches will begin next week.

Far Northeast lost seven retirees from a team in recent years that defeated Boulder in a 34-0 spring football class 5A championship game. But the Warriors return plenty of young people who helped shape the teams ’identities and are eager to show their success, which wasn’t just a by-product of the shrinking spring football field.

We want to continue it, said junior quarterback Andy Martinez, who threw 924 yards and nine goals last spring. We already have this mindset for the whole team. We want to go back to the playoffs and show that we can do it again.

Lindsay, the uncle of former Broncos and CU Buffs star Phillip Lindsay, is confident in the Far Northeasts projection as a powerhouse based on many factors. But paramount is the ability of the programs to retain domestic talent in the region.

In previous years, Lindsay said eighth-class footballers in the Montbello and Green Valley Ranch areas pulled out of high schools in neighboring countries that traditionally had more successful teams. But this trend is now reversing.

It translates to the fact that we can start climbing for good. When we won (the championship), our kids stayed home, Lindsay said. Eighth graders who usually leave, I got all 45. They stayed home. That was a big deal.

CHSAA creates a new role. To advance the action – including band, e-sport, leadership, speech and debate – the CHSAA selected Rashaan Davis to fill the newly created role as Assistant Commissioner for Operational Oversight.

Davis has worked for 25 years in education as a social science teacher, student leadership advisor, and campus administrator. He has previously served on the CHSAA Student Leadership Advisory Committee.

Davis considered the decision to set up a commissioner to oversee non-sporting activities to be the best step the CHSAA has taken for 100 years. Much of his focus is on developing championship events for activities that reflect the experience offered to traditional athletes.
