World number one 6-3 6-1 victory over Jil Teichmann secured the 13th WTA title; Australia has become the first player to have won 40 matches this season

Ashleigh Barty is the first player to have achieved 40 match wins this season

Ashleigh Barty took just 73 minutes on the field to beat Swiss Jil Teichmann 6-3 6-1 and get his fifth WTA title of the season in the Western & Southern Open.

After 3-3 in the opening round, Barty reeled in nine of the next 10 matches to beat Teichmann.

Australia’s No. 1 Australia won 85 per cent of the points after its first servo and broke only once. His dominant position in the final meant that he completed his time at the Western & Southern Open without dropping the series.

Teichmann had arrived at the winning match after dropping Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova and recent Olympic winner Belinda Bencic.

However, after Teichmann had started the final result, Barty got up and changed and did not look back.

Prior to the finals, Wimbledon World Championships No. 1 and 2021 had a positive attitude towards his form and his confidence was clear at all times.

“I feel like I’m playing well right now,” Barty said. “We’ve been able to execute the game plans well. I feel like I’m moving well and controlling the ball. That’s all I can ask of myself.”
