A strong fourth leads the field hockey world No. 13 in Lynchburg

CARLISLE, PA No. 13 University of Lynchburg 2-1 Saturday afternoon at the Biddle Field Complex.

The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 50 minutes, Franka Weronek broke through the center and found himself alone with the keeper. Jackie Lerro made a great block, though. Lynchburg tested the Devils cage four more times, but Saige Stevens recorded two fights and watched as the two sailed wide, keeping their belongings where they were. Dickinson got into the offensive line in the last minute, but both Abby Marthins and Hailey Womer denied Kayla Brady.

The home team had early pressure in the second as Sammi Moonay and Sierra Bobb shot towards the cage, but neither was able to offend Brady. In her first act of the season, Emily Dudley tested Olivia Renault for six minutes and was up to date on her job. Dickinson took on the play during the rest of the season when Bridy Fontaine, Hannah Spiri, Amanda Fruman and Tara Hausker were stopped.

The Red Devils seemed to equalize the game six minutes after the game when Spiri shot Brady’s slip, but Kaylie Truitt was there to sweep the danger of keeping the Hornets ahead. Lynchburg recorded a third to fourth final shot as Stevens made two fights and knocked out Aary’s Boatwright and Truitt attempts.

For the fourth time, the host came out with a shot when they earned two penalty corners and four shots in the first two minutes of the frame. Then, at 3:02, Renault returned to the home team cage, and it woke up the Devils, for two minutes later they were on the table thanks to Yandow-Harding from Womer’s feed to score. Only 1:32 later, Dickinson was in the lead when Werner was able to tightly clear Spir’s 2-1 lead. Lynchburg would get the last shot after seven minutes, but Lerro made a mistake past when Dickinson won.
