Glynn leads Gophers on the first day of the Marquette Intercollegiate

Junior Connor Glynn shot exactly par-72 and is exactly in 30th place, while the Minnesota men’s golf team is tied for 12th place after the opening round of Marquette Intercollegiate on Sunday at Erin Hills Golf Club in Hartford, Wis.

“Having new faces in the lineup that we’re not used to seeing is a really refreshing way for Matt [Rachey] and I’ll learn their games, ”head coach Justin Smith said. “We started the season so fast when our first practice was just a few days ago and now we play one of the hardest fields we will see all fall this championship. We learned a lot today and we had five guys between 72 and 74. We have a really consistent approach throughout the year. just need to get a couple of these guys hot now and play a couple under Antoinen. [Sale] played less than a couple of rounds at the beginning, but this course is really hard and the wind picked up, so we really had to control our games behind nine. We know against whom and they are some of the best teams in the country, so we need to raise our game over the next couple of days to get into the mix as well as possible. “

As a team, Minnesota shot 4 over 292, the best since the opening round at the Git R Done Husker Invitational in April 2021. Only two strokes separate the entire Gophers lineup.

Glynn became hot right from the start with the bird in the first hole. Three bogeys put him on a 2-over hitting turn, but he ended up even hotter as he started the birdies in the 14th and 17th holes to finish nine behind in a 2-under and flat day.

In his first Gophers race Antoine sales released a 1-over pair to 73 draws on the 38th. Four birdies in the first eight holes reduced the impact of the double bogey to number 9, and Sale shot 2 over the last nine holes.

Like Sale, a sophomore Ben Warian exactly 38. Warian was consistent throughout the day, starting with a flat pair of nine and finding himself with a 1-over pair (73) after the back.

Freshman Eduardo Galdos placeholder and senior Will Grevlos were after one shot Sale and Warian 2-2 after over 74 and placed exactly 49th. Galdos finished in the first nine flat levels, but he was two over nine in the back in his first performance at Maroon and Gold. Grevlos had birds in holes 14 and 15 to highlight their expeditions.

Purdue leads 17 team fields at the age of 13 after South Florida (-10) and Texas A&M (-6). Individually, Mats Ege of the state of East Tennessee was a pioneer when he shot 7-under-65s. Walker Lee of Texas A&M is second (-6) and five golfers are tied for third (-5).

There was also a senior on the trip Harrison Arnold and freshman Bennett SwavelyBoth compete in an individual from Washington County at a nearby Washington County golf course.

Arnold is currently exactly second on the field after an impressive first round. A three-straight bird’s eye view between holes 3-5 highlighted his seven bird days and allowed him to end his career with the best of six under less than a couple of laps (66).

“Harrison has no doubt that he will be able to win the tournament,” Smith said. “He’s already won a couple of individual events in his career, and he’s able to make a statement here. Our theme with our individual competitors is that they can let coaches know they’re ready for the lineup and not consistent there. Harrison is probably disappointed because he’s not there for the team but he’s definitely making a statement that he deserves it and is helping our team improve every day. I’m very excited that he’ll get into the mix tomorrow and see how he works. ”

Swavely made their strong debut for the Gophers and fired exactly 72 with exactly 72. The freshman found himself 1-first in front of nine, but bounced back with two birds behind nine.

“This is Bennett’s first collegiate event, and we’re playing in his home state with his family here,” Smith said. “It was really great to see him compete, and he had a flat day with three bird bags and three bogeyes. It was a golf course you can drive well on, you can create a lot of opportunities. He definitely drove it well today.”

Galdos is the first Gopher to set off for the Marquette Intercollegiate on Monday in the second round when he starts at No. 10 at 9.50 CT. Grevlos, Warian, Sale and Glynn follow every 10 minutes.

At the Washington County Individual, Arnold and Swavely begin at 7:30 p.m.
