A couple of double wins weren’t enough for the Warren girls on Saturday morning as the Dragons dropped a 3-2 non-league tennis decision to St. Marys.
The Flying Dutch have won seven consecutive District 9 team titles and beat Warren 5-0 last season.
Davan Lion, Emma Garvazzi and Rachel Fleming collected straight wins for St.Marys in singles.
Warren’s double pairs continued their three-match winning streak.
Dragons Madalynn Perry and Sydnie Cochran initially defeated Mya Klaiber and Maddy Wittman 6-3, 6-2 in a duel.
In the second doubles, Warren’s Izzy Heacox and Sophie Olson won 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) over June’s Chen and Caitlyn Blessel.
– Overall, this was not a bad match for us. It really shows that our program is moving in the right direction, ” said Warren head coach Tom Pellegrino. – Today our girls competed hard and were only a little behind. … We have a very young team that gets better every day and learns from every match. “
Warren will visit Villa Maria on Tuesday.
