Spider Field Hockey drops to No. 24 for JMU in Home Opener

RICHMOND, Va. The University of Richmond field hockey attack was suppressed No. 24 by James Madison falling 3-0, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.

The spiders drop 0-3 a year, while the Dukes improve 3-1.

JMU took the lead 2-0 in the first quarter, in the corner game and with a penalty kick. Dukes added a third goal before Halftime.

Richmond earned six penalty corners and seven shots in the first half, but the JMU defense disrupted all of the Spiders ’scoring opportunities. Junior Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, New York) beat the spiders with three shots when he was older Steffie Bongers (Weert, Netherlands) took two shots to finish.

JMU ended in favor of the shots (16-11), while UR held a hand in the corners (7-6). Eveline Zwager took two goals in the Dukes and assisted in the third.

Spider goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) fought four times and scored three goals with 15 hits.

The spiders are back in action on Friday, Sept. 10 in College Park, Md., When Richmond receives the American at 7 p.m. at BIG10 Network Plus. UR returns to Crenshaw Field on Sunday, September 12 to host Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m.
