EIU Tennis will open in the fall this weekend

Eastern Illinois men’s and women’s tennis will return to action this weekend as the Panthers open in the fall at two weekend events. EIU men will play at the River Forest Collegiate Tennis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, while women will compete in the SIUE Cougar Fall.

The men’s event will feature eight collegiate teams, including EIU, Northern Illinois, Illinois, UIC, Saint Louis, Xavier, Youngstown State and Washington University. The event will be held at the River Forest Tennis Club.

The EIU will return nine players from last year’s list in addition to freshmen Tyler Carlin and Will Ulrich. Christos Kyrillou and Charles Courteau are the Panthers ’best-returning male players since last spring, with each player collecting five individual wins. Kyrillou was once selected as the player of OVC Men’s Week during the spring.

The women’s event will feature teams from EIU, SIUE, Bradley and the West Illinois, playing in Edwardsville on Friday and Saturday.

Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova both earned All-OVC honors during the spring with Papavasilopoulos releasing an 11-2 record in the singles game. Bukraba-Ulanova was 9-8 overall, including 4-3 in the conference game.

Double combination Addison Brown and Christine Gouws played well for the Panthers in the spring, finishing a 7-2 record in doubles, including a 4-1 record in OVC.
