Sean Manaea dominates White Sox as the As take series

OAKLAND, Calif., The White Sox had no answer for left-handed Sean Manaea, who hit nine of the seven dominating lots on Thursday in a 3-1 victory in athletics.

Manaea (9-9) allowed their first run and five hits in their first win since July 28th.

The most important was his command, Sox leader Tony La Russa said. He had good stuff, but he kept it out of the middle of the record throughout the game.

It has a good life, so if the guys got a barrel for it, they really didn’t get many. Give him credit.

The Sox dropped two of the three games for royals and athletics.

Well not good, you just have to get better, La Russa said.

Notice it, work with it and improve it. This is what we need to do in the next 20 plus games.

Jose Abreu made two hits and followed in the Sox, who have lost 10 of their last 11 regular season matches at Oakland Coliseum.

Tony Kemp brought As forward three times against Reynaldo Lopez (3-2) in the second set.

The Sox equalized it when Abreu chose Cesar Hernandez third and gave him 104 RBIs.

But Oakland responded with two undeserved rounds at the bottom of the third set. Lopez tried to pick up Starling Marten from second base, but his throw went into midfield, with Marte scoring and Matt Olson moving from first to third. Matt Chapman then drove in Olson with the victim fly.

Former Cubs facilitator Andrew Chafin scored the ninth set with his third fight.

Lopez allowed three runs (one earned) and six hits in five innings.

I had to fight through a few things, Lopez said. My stuff was not as good as usual. Today was one of the days you have to fight, and even though I didn’t have my best stuff, I was able to survive five innings. I made one mistake; I paid for it.

La Russa was quite pleased with Lopezs’ performance.

One slider error that hurt, La Russa said. He got us through five. There are only three runs on the board. He did his thing.

We were able to prevent the addition of goals in the second half of the goal. You started thinking we could win it. I thought we were in a really good position to come back, and we weren’t.

Tim Anderson (injured list), Eloy Jimenez (foul ball from knee on Tuesday) and Yoan Moncada (rest) did not play.

The Sox are 26-25 after the All-Star break and 1-6-1 in the road series after the break.
