The field hockey remains undefeated at home with a 4-3 win over Lehigh

PHILADELPHIA -La Salle Field hockey team (3-2) continued their dominance at home on Friday afternoon and gathered from the finish line down against Lehigh (2-2) to win 4-3 and improve 3-0 at Hank DeVincent Field in the fall of 2021.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN:

• Lehigh started strongly on Friday when Drew Pecora broke the ice in just a 6:10 match via Oliva Perrone’s feed and led the Mountain Hawks to a 1-0 lead.
• In the second quarter, the Explorer attack responded by hitting twice in less than three minutes, giving La Salle a 2-1 lead.
• Freshman Cristina Dougherty scored his second goal of the season by fighting the freshman Sofia Pla shot to the corner of the net and leveled the game 1-1 with a 24:50 mark.
• Only 2:50 later, graduated senior Jessica Hewitt achieved its first goal of the campaign with junior sweet feed Casey Reilly in front of the cage and hit it home so the Explorers would lead a 2-1 lead that would last until halftime.
• Lehigh found the equalizer early in the third quarter as Pecora played inside the feed circle for Sarah Bonthuis, who hit a one-time shot at the top of the cage to equalize the game 2-2 32:31.
• Scholars did not waste time gaining leadership as a sophomore Tatum Johnson collected his own rebound and made it just 50 seconds later to lead La Salle 3-2.
• Freshman Sophia Wasyliw added his first goal of the season later in the third, shooting through traffic and the net 39:36 and leading 3-2.
• Lehigh tried to make a late return when Pecora scored another goal in 3:23 and hit home after La Salle’s goalkeeper. Ryan Curley stopped the first corner and changed to 4-3.
• The Mountain Hawks got one more corner in less than three minutes, but La Salle’s defense was clear and won 4-3.

BOX CONTENTS:

• The shots were almost exactly Friday back and forth as Lehigh kept a small edge, 15-14, as the goals in the finish were up 9-9.
• La Salle tried five penalty corners for Lehigh’s four.
• Freshman Dr. Quinn began his first career on Friday when he scored the first goal of his career against Drexel 5. September.
• With goals from Hewitt and Wasyliwi, La Salle has now had eight different scorers and 12 different players record points for their balanced attack.
• Pla lowered his first pass of the season and gave him the team’s best 11 points.
• Johnson’s goal was fourth in his campaign, and he scored 10 points out of five games.
• Ryan Curley (3-2) made six fights and took the third win of the season.
