Mitchells ’double record is 10-2, and he suffers two close losses. Each team scored 5-4 for RC Stevens on August 27th and Yankton on September 3rd.

Mitchell has won eight games 9-0 and a win 8-0 in ten games.

The first flight single player Atlanta Stahle is currently sitting 12-5 and has won his last four sets 6-0. No. 2 single player Olivia Huber’s record is 14-2 and she has won her last three matches. Amber Moller is Mitchell’s third best single player and her record is 11-4. Flight 5 single player Sydney Reynolds is 13-4 and 6th place single player Megan Mastel 17-1. Mastel has not lost a match since August 27th.

Mitchell became the dominant A-class girls tennis champion twice this season. They understood that their goal was to get three peat, but they knew nothing would be easy because they have goals on their backs. It can certainly be said that Mitchell handles adversity quite well so far.

I’m really proud of the way we respond to pressure, ”Mitchell head coach Pat Moller said. We talked about it a lot in practice, and like in matches, other teams want to win the best. We’ve seen players raise their game against Mitchell and Ive told our girls that we have to expect the best from other teams.

Some of these players have been working with Moller since fifth grade, and he said they have spent time and dedication on the sport to be in the position they are.

They’re not good because they woke up well in tennis, Moller said. They are good because they developed a passion for tennis in their hearts and they went out and worked in front of it. There is no secret to the success of tennis. If you work more than your opponents, you probably have more success than they have, and our girls have really embraced it.

Mitchell has undoubtedly won the hardest part of his schedule and played six matches in eight days.

Moller said scheduling this part of the season is something they could change to give their team more rest, but he believes a tighter schedule will help this team in the long run.

It’s great, I always feel like if we get through this stretch without injury, we’ll play a lot better after that, Moller said. Girls know they need to be physically and mentally ready for that massage, and they take on this challenge. It’s as much grind as the East-South-Dakota Conference tournament and the state tournament, so it prepares us for it mentally.

Moller said this team still has a lot of work to do and he wants to get all players to play at a high level consistently as they approach the state tournament on October 3rd.

When we went to Rapid City and played on the Rapid City call, we played at a high level most of the time, Moller said. We dropped a few matches because we lost our focus or we just didn’t play with the intensity we had to play, but when the girls focus on the right mindset, I like our chances against anyone.

Mitchells ’next match is a quadruple against Sioux Falls Jefferson, Spearfish and Yankton at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Hitchcock Park.
