Indian men’s and women’s teams will be selected for the Asian Table Tennis Championships starting in Doha on September 28th. Veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal leads the men’s challenges with G Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai, Manav Thakkar and Sanil Shetty. Indian paddler Manika Batra is left out of the Indian team. In the absence of the world’s 56th player, the women’s team is led by 97th-place Sutirtha Mukherjee. The other members are Ayhika Mukherjee and Archana Kamath. The Indian Table Tennis Association had made it clear that not all players who did not participate in the camp would be taken into account in the selection. Manika had informed the union that he would like to continue training with his personal trainer in Pune. Powerhouse China will not participate in the Asian TT Championship and raise medal hopes at the men’s team event. And in the women’s event, Manika Batra is sorely missed as she is an important caster in India.
