OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. The Purdue men’s golf team put together the best of the weekend and rose two places in the team standings to finish 10th at the prestigious Olympia Fields Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Boilermakers dropped a 54-hole 24 pair to 864 (288-291-285) and reached 22 shots after the team champion and 4th place in North Carolina (842). Arizona State and Oklahoma State finished second and third. Purdue finished seventh after just six shots from Texas (858) and two shots after Florida and defending national champion Pepperdine (862).
Purdue defeats national powers on Illinois, Baylor, Florida, Arizona and California on the way to 10thlocation introduction. It’s the third time in eight appearances that Purdue has been ranked in the top ten (T-9th in the year 2011; T-8th in 2017).
Joe Weiler led boiler manufacturers 12th-finishing 2 over par 212 (69-72-71). It ranked Weiler eighth in the top 20 during his last 12 events (three years) and his 11th among the top 20 in his career. Weiler started slowly by recording the bogey for two of his first three holes, but managed to play the last 15 holes in a pair of under-1s to move into the top 15.
Second year student Herman Sekne achieved its second consecutive top 25 finish and placed 24thth 5-over par 215 (70-72-73). Sekne was up to 11 in the round, but suffered bogeys in three of his last seven holes to drop out of the top 20. However, the show continued a strong early start for the Norwegian and was his fourth of his last 25 goals in the last six events.
Cole Bradley turned to Purdue ‘s best lap of the day, exactly 70 and finished exactly 42second 10 out of more than 220 (76-74-70). Bradley had a pretty uneventful day with 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey, including pars in his last nine holes.
Luke Prall ended exactly 51st at 11 a.m. over par 221 (74-73-74), while Nick Dentino was exactly 59th at 13 over par 223 (75-77-71).
Purdue will be in action next time 2. -4. October at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate in Northern Illinois.
