The Lancers go unbeaten on the final day of the River City Tennis Open

RICHMOND, Va. If it’s about how you finish, the last day of Longwood’s men’s tennis at the River City Tennis Open couldn’t have gone better.

Along with an unbeatable run through a double purple flight senior Rosen Naydenov and freshman Luis Reis, Lancers took a clean sweep of their four singles and two doubles in a two-day tournament. Over the weekend, the Lancers won 6-6 in singles and 4-2 in singles.

Naydenov and Reis, who went 2-0 on the first day of the tournament on Friday against the three-team field, praised the perfect show on Saturday by taking 6-1 Villanova Alex Kim and Ryan Nguyen. The final win made the Lancer duo one of only five pairs to go 3-0 in the tournament, the largest Division I event in Virginia each year.

Reis and senior Guillermo Cagigas also went 2-1 on their individual flights and took second place in each.

“I’m so proud of the guys for their way of competing, and their improvement shows in every match,” said Longwood’s first-year head coach. Adam Jackson. “We played very well on every flight. Richmond did an amazing job with the tournament, and we look forward to this event every year.”

Shortened to one day due to the bad weather expected on Sunday, the River City Tennis Open is the last tuning for the Lancer men before the ITA Regionals 14-17. October in Lynchburg, Va.
