Updated HSOT volleyball, boys soccer, girls tennis results at the end of the season

Every week, HighSchoolOT ranks the state’s best boys ’soccer, volleyball and girls’ tennis teams, regardless of rating or association. The investments are divided into east / west splits.

Volleyball to the east

Well what an interesting week! Cedar Ridge beat JH Rose the same week Rose beat DH Conley. Pinecrest and Chapel Hill each suffered losses, but they were only for the above teams, and most were the best of the three matches. South Columbus will rise after Whiteville has dropped in the state’s only loss-not-invincible show last week, and Hoggard will slide up when the season is split with Ashley. Ashley, Whiteville and Wake Christian (who was shocked by Saint Mary’s) fall, and will be replaced by Greater Neuse River Conference Director Fuquay-Varina and NCISAA teams at Rocky Mount Academy (not lost or committed to any state team), and Fayetteville Christian (only the loss came to High Point Christian).

Volleyball West

The biggest change in the West comes when East Surry drops out of the top 15 without a draw after Davie County’s defeat. Asheville Christian also drops after losing to Gaston Day (the Spartans have nine losses, but all were for non-state teams and most of them were the best of three matches). Davidson Day jumps past the student union after a win, and Myers Park returns to the top 25 after a week’s break.

Boys Soccer East

The week’s biggest results were Durham Academy’s PK win over Ravenscroft, the Riverside of Durham’s shock over Jordan, Enloe’s win over Broughton and a loss for Sanderson, Apex Friendship and Broughton who dropped twice a week, and a host of other results that led to a near 2A clean-up. Greene Central, Research Triangle and James Kenan were replaced by all 4A teams: Wakefield, Topsail and DH Conley, leaving Jordan-Matthews as the lone 2A team.

Boys Soccer West

The loss of Weddington overtime to Porter Ridge knocked the Warriors down, but they remain among the top ten. It helped Porter Ridge jump into this week’s standings, as did his Mooresville Norman Lake victory. Shelby is the third new team this week to replace West Cabarrus.

Girls Tennis East

With a week left in the playoffs, East Chapel Hill and Leesville Road look like winning teams: but that’s no one’s guess. Cardinal Gibbons lost to Leesville twice, but won Green Hope 5-4. Green Hope also shared 5-4 decisions against Apex Friendship. The Top 10, with the exception of New Hannover and East Chapel Hill, have all been involved in 5-4 matches against the other top 10 teams. Cape Fear is the only newcomer to the rankings and is also the top 3A team. Greene Central, 19, leads the 2A teams.

Girls Tennis West

Coming to the final week of the regular season, Marvin Ridge is clearly number one in the West and appears to be the best in the state. Charlotte Catholic and Ardrey Kell are jumping two points up after the Catholic won Charlotte Country Day last week. Meanwhile, Lake Norman Charter (the best 3A team in the West) jumped on Charlotte Christian. There were three new teams this week: Greensboro Day, Forsyth Country Day and Bishop McGuinness. All three were placed one time or another this season and will return to the top 25.
