A strong day for women’s tennis at the ITA Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. On Saturday, Auburn’s women’s tennis team had another day of four wins in singles as the Tigers Quartet advanced to the ITA Southern Regional Championship semi-finals.

Auburn collected a total of five wins during the day and won four main games and a singles 32 round.

“Today we fought well as a team,” Auburn’s head coach Caroline Lilley said. “In completely different circumstances than yesterday, our commitment to be professional and competitive gave us opportunities. Tomorrow will bring us more challenges to navigate with the same effort and rage.”

Auburn players will make up a quarter of the quarterfinals and four players will advance on Saturday. Adeline flat won Auburn’s first victory and defeated Ole Miss’ Ludmila Kareisova 6-4, 6-2. Georgie Axon followed shortly after with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Chloe Cirotte of Mississippi. Carolyn Ansari, place 45^th, knocked down Alabama’s Anne Marie Hiser in three installments, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. And Ariana Arseneault overthrew the northwestern state Rozalie Dohnalovan 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.

The Tigers also played three matches in the consolation of the doubles. Yu Chen fell to Ole Miss’ Annae LaClercq-Fisher in a draw 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). The other two matches went into a draw in the third round Anastasia Astakhova fell to the rebels Kelsey Mizelle, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3) and Madeline Meredith rejected the 7-6 (4), 3-6, 1-0 (7) decision of UAB Adela Wasserbauerova.

In doubles 19^thteam Axon and Flach won their opening game of the tournament by defeating Northwestern Klevisar and Minett 8-5. But the Tiger tandem drops in the quarterfinals to South Alabama’s Rising and Tutunaru, 8-3. Arseneault and Meredith fell in the quarterfinals to Gabrielsen and Zador, Ole Miss, 8-5.
