Australia’s open tennis star vaccination policy has not yet been resolved, although leaked email says

Victoria Pakula, the minister of major events in Victoria, says the vaccination requirements for tennis players have not yet been resolved this summer, although a leaked email suggests that unvaccinated players will be admitted.

An email from the WTA Players Council to players said unvaccinated players will be allowed to travel to Australia and quarantine for two weeks before they are allowed to play.

It also said that fully vaccinated players would have no restrictions and could move freely without a bubble.

The email asked players to “keep this information confidential until the government makes an official announcement.”

Men’s world-class number one Novak Djokovic has previously said he didn’t know if he would attend the Australian Open because he didn’t want to reveal his vaccination status.

Last week, Federal Immigration Secretary Alex Hawke said there will be no changes to the rules for tennis players, meaning those who are not vaccinated will not be allowed into Australia.

However, Pakula said the policy is still being defined.

“We are still talking to the Commonwealth about whether the rule for international non-vaccinated entrants is either quarantined for 14 days or not, but he said.

The vaccination rate for professional players was reported to be between 50 and 60 percent, but Pakula said he believes the number will rise rapidly.
