Cricket starts on Saturday

New coach Michael Drake has finished the season’s preparations with his team, and the teams are now focused exclusively on Round 1 clashes in Northeast Victoria.

“In all the pre-season sessions, there were plenty of participants, and the club benefited from two in-club matches that were fierce,” Drake said.

“As with any new season, there is excitement and hope that players and teams will perform well and taste good.

“There is also a great deal of faith within the group, rooted in several hours of practice since August.”

This season, The Lakers will also see fresh faces from Fraser Smart (Gellibrand CC), Gary Douglas (STC South Camberwell CC), Tom Draffin (Deniliquin CC) and Josh Kirby (Wallan CC). involving some NMCC boomerangs in Dean Slattery, Matt Knight, and Josh Lawrence.

The local cricket factory is constantly gathering young cricketers as Mitch Appleby, Thomas Coffey, Oliver Connell, Ollie Cope, William Turnell and Rudi Vodusek graduate as retirees.

Drake couldn’t be happier with a stream of exciting abilities and experiences as these players add depth. The NMCC needs everything practical as the race chases the Lakers in all classes after last season’s record highs.

The Lakers have joined the lower branch of Yarrawonga Mulwala RSL to hold a Memorial Day commemoration before the first round match on Saturday, November 6th. The YMCC monitors ode, minute silence, and the last post before the first ball is bowled. Stan Hargreaves in Oval. All YMCC players use the poppy to support the RSL Poppy Appeal application.

The NMCC hopes that the gesture will not only show their respect, but will raise awareness of the younger members of the club and
community of those who served our country more than a hundred years ago in the Great War.

W & DCA has introduced the T20 Carnival in “A” and “A-Classes” to start the season with a double title on Saturday in Wangaratta.

Brock McCabe will be captaining the A-Class team in all T20 matches this season as the club plans to further develop the next generation of leaders and get guidance from current leaders.

McCabe continues to grow under new responsibility and adds new language to its impressive strings.

Premier League captain Reid Clarke continues to lead Class A one-day and two-day teams and direct McCabe during T20 matches.

Thursday nights at the Victoria Park Sports Pavilion are a choice night. The Lakers will send an invitation to all sponsors, social members, players, staff and cricket lovers to come and enjoy the bar and canteen facilities. Listen to the announcements from the captains of the teams in each class and there will be a summary of the highlights of the previous round match and the prize winners.

There are also visiting speakers from time to time on Thursday evenings to add to the atmosphere.

The reopening of the pavilion will take place in accordance with the current COVID19 requirements and logging in with a QR code or written register is a necessity of everyday life.
