ANN ARBOR, me. – Michigan football knocked out Indiana on Saturday 29-7 in a game where the attack did its job, the defense was dominant, but injuries increased as the game progressed.
Donovan Edwards was not dressed for the game, and although Erick All was dressed, he was not playing. But in the game, Blake Corum, Andrel Anthony and AJ Henning all left the game. Cade McNamara was often beaten, but he returned from time to time.
After the game, Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh talked about various injuries as well as what he saw on his team when it knocked down the Hoosiers, and improved in the 8-1 process. Here is all he had to say.
What did he learn from the team about Saturday night’s performance?
– I think it was a really strong performance. Some of the main highlights – in defense, four 3’s and out at the start of the second half. Just like the team got off to a quick start in this game. I just continued to build the management and expand it. I thought the pressure on their quarterback was a huge factor. Aidan, Ojabo, Upshaw and others – they reached the quarterback several times. Hassan Haskins’ big game. Career high. I think this is his Fifth 100 Yard game of the season. He played a big game, he played a big game in the outer zone for about 64 and Cornelius Johnson got behind the defense. I also thought about other highlights – just a strong performance from both lines. Nice to see that Luke Schoonmaker is also having a great day. Two touchdown catches.
“Make a few guys healthier next week and have good days. Good days are now the goal when you go down. Have a good meeting day, have a good workout and then play the game.”
How serious is Blake Corum’s injury?
“Let’s see. After the game, we talked to him a bit. I don’t know how – I don’t think it’s serious, I don’t know if it’s mild. But it’s somewhere less than serious – let’s see.
For all other injuries
– I thought our team was – I think everyone on the team did a really good job. The team arrived fresh today. That is the goal for next week. Our attacks, our special team, defense came to this game in a really good location, in a good state of mind. Lots of energy. I thought they played the whole 60 minutes this way.
“Yeah, there were a couple of guys in this game that I think will return, healthier next week. Just do a good job and put a good day on top of a good day as we get ready for Penn State.
Are they all playing against Penn State?
“I’m hopeful! I don’t know for sure. If they can heal like the Green Brothers – both Green Brothers, Gemon and German Green, I’ve been with them for four years now, and no one I’ve ever seen in football is healing faster than the Green Brothers. It’s it’s amazing, it’s amazing. So hopefully – I know the greens do! I’m sure of that! “
Why Michael Barrett played a bigger role on Saturday
“Good – we wanted to be in packages where we didn’t have to change the pace of the teams. It was a problem we were getting into this game, and it was one of the fixes. This led to more playing time.
“I think he played well based on what I saw.”
David Ojabo’s forced brawl
“David Ojabo just gets better and better. He does a great job. The combination of him and Aidan and also part of it made David use more basic defenses, so he gets more playing time. I think he responded to it really well. But it was big. He has the skill for it. He’s someone you really need to take an account of, his ability to rush a passerby, and the addition of other parts to his game, he was also in some relegation situations.
“But doing good. It’s a problem. We see it in practice – on one side of the fence, David Ojabo on the other. They both get into the quarterback and do a damn good job.
How did DJ Turner do in the punt retreats?
“Yeah, thanks for bringing this up. I thought the DJ was doing a hell of a job when he came back. Get moving – it was a nice return. Caught the ball every time. There were also really good cover games. Actually, just one game I thought of – shoulder deposit quarterback where he could have wrapped it in. But yeah, nice to see he has a good game.
From Jake Moody’s game
“Yeah, thank you for bringing it up. He’s having a great year. I have a very high level of confidence in Jake Moody. Very stable, very good. Very important. Wagner, Brad Robbins and Jake Moody – is a really great window. ”
What was JJ McCarthy’s plan for Saturday?
– The plan was to play JJ a little earlier. And then, yes, he played a lot more in the second half, as you pointed out. Cade was working on something. As tough as you can be, you have to give Cade a lot of credit, he’s a tough guy. But yeah, stay praying and get better. ”
Was McNamara’s injury new or was it related to last week?
“It related a bit to last week, yeah. One thing.”
On the crime of the Red Area
– First of all, it is good to be able to drive and get the ball to the red area. I always want to end it with touchdowns. I thought we did a great job winning the penalty kick in the first and 15 matches. But Schoony was a big factor in converting to the red area tonight, so that’s a plus. It was great to see that he had a good game again. He’s had good games before, but yes – a tight end, kind of a big tight – like you saw Erick All last week. I think Erick will be back this week. It can be a big factor in the red area.
