Victoria confirms Shield for SCG match

Victoria have confirmed a 12-player team in the third Marsh Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales.

The Victorians have started their Marsh Sheffield Shield season with two consecutive victories and are at the top of the ladder.

Brody Couch and Xavier Crone are both queuing for a possible Marsh Sheffield Shield debut.

Crone, who earned his first rookie contract before the 2016/17 season, has performed in Victoria in five A-list matches and represents Carlton in Victoria’s Premier Cricket.

Brody Couch, a fast bowler from Warrnambool, joined the Victorian contract list before 2020/21 and made his Marsh One-Day Cup debut in March this year.

After the selection of the Australian teams, Scott Boland, Nic Maddinson and Marcus Harris were not eligible.

Jon Holland continues to recover from the concussion after getting out of the previous Marsh Sheffield Shield match.

Cricket Victoria Electoral Chairman Andrew Lynch congratulated the trio on their election to Australia.

“We’re happy with Scott, Nice and Marcus, they’ve been regular performers for Victoria for years and deserve a chance at the next level,” Lynch said.

“We’re lucky to have depth on our team to welcome players like Travis Dean and Jono Merlo back, while both Xavier Crone and Brody Couch have been developing our system for a while, looking forward to what they can do.”
