Hometown Hockey coming to Six Nations in the new year

“We are so excited to bring Rogers Hometown Hockey to the Six Nations,” said elected chief Mark Hill.

“Our community has had such a difficult year with the COVID virus and the search for former residential areas; people really need joy right now. We look forward to celebrating safely as a community and welcome Rogers Hometown Hockey to Six Nations.”

A tweet from the Hometown Hockey account says the year 2022 begins with a visit and urges those interested to attend to stay tuned for more information.

“We look forward to celebrating the people of Hausosaune and their stories on the national Sportsnet broadcast from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory,” it reads.

The broadcast, hosted by Ron MacLean and Tara Slone, will see a match between Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes where the puck drops at 7.30pm.

Hometown Hockey describes itself as an outdoor hockey party with interactive experiences, live entertainment and alumni meeting and greeting. It has visited more than 130 cities since its introduction in 2014.

Six Nations says it highlights everything the community has to offer from sports programs to local talent and youth.

Tickets for the event are free, but for anyone who wants to attend, have it register in advance.

Six Nations reported that strict COVID-19 protocols are in place, including a health check, mandatory masks, and proof of full vaccination for anyone 12 years of age and older.
